Burglars strike at five homes in Rustington

FIVE homes in Rustington were targeted by thieves in the space of a single night, police have said.

During Friday evening (September 19) and Saturday morning (September 20) police were contacted about a series of burglaries and similar incidents in Rustington.

Two homes in Laburnam Walk and one in Maple Walk were entered by a burglar. All three homes were insecure.

One black purse with a belt and silver buckle was also taken.

One residence in Maple Walk had shears removed from a shed which police said were then used in a failed attempt to force the back door open.

A purple bike with a child seat was also stolen from outside a home in Maple Walk and an attempt was made to break into a separate home in the road.

Sussex Police launched Operation Magpie to tackle burglary across the county.

Detective Constable Jon Stadius said: “We are appealing for anyone who was in Laburnam Walk or Maple Walk late on Friday or early on Saturday who may have seen or heard anything suspicious.

“Entry was gained to the addresses through unlocked back doors so I would urge residents to keep their doors and windows secure, in particular after dark and when they are not at home.”
