SOUP LUNCH: Thank you to everyone who came and helped to make the soup lunch, such a fun social event. It was lovely to see a few new faces among our regular supporters. We made six varieties of soups and many diners tried most of them. Biggest favourite by far was the minted pea and ham and the oxtail soup made just like my mum did. The curried parsnip was also quite popular as was the broccoli and Stilton. The other two were carrot tomato and coriander and leek and potato both had there moment. Of the eight desserts the most popular were the treacle sponge and custard and the apple crumble and custard. Eton mess was also very popular. Thank you to Jackie Ashdown for doing the tombola and Bev Boakes and Chris Lane the raffle. Big thank you to the girls in the kitchen Lorraine Tesker, Laura Carver, Becki Mepham and Wendy Woolgar. We raised £191 towards the guides trip to Tipperary and the international event.

BOWLS: The Burwash Short Mat Bowls Club continue with their matches in the Wealden League. The latest one was at home to Plumpton. The team played well with some amazing results. Both the triples teams won their game and the pairs had one win and a draw. This gave us seven valuable league points and keeps us in the top half of the table. The team have a week off next week but will be at the village hall on Monday evening as usual. Last Monday the ladies played the President’s Cup singles. This was fiercely contested with some good play by all who entered. The winner at the end was Mary Taylor who beat Angela Marden in a good final. If you would like to play this great social sport why not join us at the hall one Monday evening from 6.30pm. The members will be happy to show you how to play and tell you the rules. You can also borrow equipment until you are ready to buy your own. Call Mary Taylor 01435 882107 for further details.
