Burwash

MUSIC: The music festival held in the gardens at the Bear Motel last Saturday was once again a huge success. Local bands entertained the audiences with some really great sounding music and songs. Those I have spoken to and reports from villagers say that the event was trouble free and great fun. Well done to the Bear for giving us another great music event and for raising money for charity

BLOOMS: Today, Friday, will see the judges going round the village looking at the entries for the Burwash in Bloom competition. They will be judging the boxes, baskets troughs and garden of the residents and the baskets, boxes and troughs of the businesses. Despite the wet and cloudy weather of late many of the baskets etc are looking really pretty. Good luck to all those who have entered.

WHISTLE FOR THE SOMME: A special service will be held at the Burwash War Memorial tonight, Friday, at 7.30pm to remember those who fell in the Battle of the Somme 100 years ago. At 7.30pm on July 1, 1916, whistles blew along the western front as a signal to troops to go over the top. This was the start of the bloodiest battle of the Great War. Three short blasts will be in remembrance of those who gave the ultimate sacrifice. Please feel free to go along and remember these amazing men.

WHIST: The next whist evening in Burwash Village Hall will be on Thursday from 7pm. These fun evenings are for card players of all abilities and everyone is made welcome. Indeed, last month my cousin from Canada joined us and she had never played the game before. Everyone was pleased to include her and no one got upset about a wrong play. Over the last two years we have been delighted to welcome new players from around the villages, even from as far as Hailsham and Sandhurst. Robertsbridge support us and we support them. All money from the evening goes to our maintenance funds. Entry is £3 and includes 20 hands of cards. Please do come along and join the fun. Call Mary Taylor 01435 882107 for further details.
