Burwash

SOUP: There was a lovely turn out for the spring soup lunch last week. Thirty eight diners enjoyed sampling some of the six different soups on offer. Most popular were the Broccoli and stilton, minted pea and ham and the curried Parsnip. The carrot, Tomato and coriander and the leek and potato were also enjoyed by many as diners tried more than one. Some had all six which was great. The desserts were also well received with the Eton Mess, the banoffee pie and the Steamed treacle pudding the most popular. Thank you to everyone who came and joined us. Big thank you to Anne and John Rumens, Marjorie Axell, Gail Delong and Barry Taylor for all their amazing help. Also to all those who helped to clear up at the end of the lunch. £318 was made for the refurbishments of the village hall toilets.

COINS: Thank you to everyone who supported the mile of coins last Saturday. The coins were laid right along the high street in a wriggly line of all types of denomination. Thankfully the weather stayed dry so the coins were not wet to handle. Even the children helped to lay coins down. It took the organisers several hours to count your donations which totalled £420. This will go towards the June celebration party in the parks for her Majesty the Queen’s 90th birthday. Well done to all the organisers.

WALK: Over 25 years ago Ijon Jenner use to organise sponsored walks which took in some of the most beautiful parts of our lovely of road countryside. Tomorrow, Saturday, he is organising another one to raise funds for St Bartholomew’s Church. The walk will begin at the church at 9.30am and will be marshalled by many who were the old gang. If you and your family would like to join in please do. Sponsor forms are available at the back of the church or from Vicky Patterson on 01435 884135 or ring Jon on 882045. The walk is about five miles and are always great fun.

PAINTERS: The Burwash Monday Painters will be going outside to paint for the summer. This very talented group meet every Monday afternoon and will visit different locations to create their beautiful pictures. If you would like to join them please call Grace on 01435 860848 or Anne on 01435 883247

MEETING: The Annual General Meeting of the Burwash Weald and Common Memorial Fund Playing Field will take place on Monday evening at 7.30pm at the Burwash Common Pavilion. All residents and clubs are welcome to attend. For details call Halina Keep 01435 882183. BLG: The Burwash Ladies Group will meet on Wednesday afternoon from 2.15pm in the village hall. This great group enjoy a wide programme of monthly talks and outings. This month Seta Carey will be talking on Lebanon from 1975 to 1990. They always end with tea. If you would like to join the group and take part in their fun do go along on Wednesday. The outing this month will be on Wednesday 25 to Michelham Priory house and gardens.

CHRISTIAN AID WEEK: There are several events organised to help raise funds in Christian Aid week. On Saturday May 21 there is to be A Big Brekkie at Welcome Church Heathfield and a quiz at the Bear Inn in the evening. This will be £7 to include sausage and mash supper £2 if you don’t. BRIDGE: A fun bridge afternoon is being organised to raise funds for Demelza Children’s Hospice. It is being held on Wednesday May 18 in the Burwash Common Pavilion. Play will begin at 2pm.
