Burwash

FLOWER CLUB: Last week I wrote about the Burwash and District Flower Arrangement Club's AGM. Unfortunately my source gave the wrong date. This is not being held until February 16. I apologise to anyone who went along to the hall expecting this meeting on Monday. Instead of flowers they will have found paints etc as the Monday painters club were there. I hope not too many were put to any inconvenience.

The licence bar will be open.

BOOKS: Bateman’s are looking for any donations of the children’s classics. They are hoping to open a second hand book shop with the profits being reinvested into story telling activities to make sure that Kiplings stories live on. If you have anything you think would do please call the shop on 01435 884839 or email [email protected]

BOWLS: Burwash Short Mat Bowls Club have played another match in the Weald League Division Two. They were at home to Ringmer Tortoises. This was a really fun evening with lots of banter between the two teams. The triples, Angela and Keith Marden and Gavin Wood won 25-1 and Joan Howard, Mary Taylor and Alan Green won 17-5. After a noisy tea break, which saw Ringmer take all the raffle prizes, the pairs played with Julie Hawkins and Keith Wood winning 15-5 and Cherry Taylor and Alec Martin won 13-11. This gives Burwash eight more league points. The club have a friendly with Horam on Monday and a league game against Ringmer Hares on Thursday, both at home. We would be delighted if anyone would like to come along and watch the games and learn more about it. Please call Mary Taylor 01435 882107 for more information.

BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION: Something for our diaries for June is a planned celebration for the Queen’s 90th birthday. A big do is planned for Burwash, Burwash Weald and Burwash Common. This may seem a long way of yet but to help raise funds for this the Burwash Community Fund, formally known as the Burwash Jubilee Community Fund, are hoping to hold an auction of promises on Friday March 11. Obviously for this they need promises. If you can offer something that can be auctioned be it gardening, cooking, ironing, driving, babysitting indeed anything, please call Halina Keep on 01435 882183 or email [email protected]
