Burwash

Lenten Lunch: Thank you to the ladies of The Church of Christ the King and St Bartholomew's church for the delicious soups they provided for the Lenten Lunch they held last week. I am told the hall look very pretty with the freshly laundered blue tablecloths and matching napkins. Unfortunately I was unable to attend but I am told that there were six different soups to try, indeed some tried to taste them all. These were served with fresh crusty breads. The numbers were down slightly on last year but just over £250 was raise for Medecins Sans Frontiers.

Love Burwash: The volunteers who were out in force on Saturday to help with the tidying and cleaning of our three villages have done a fabulous job. As we returned to the village you could see the difference in the road signs which had all be washed, the verges which had been cut back and made more accessible. Most noticeably was the footpath along the bottom of the bank at Highfield, which is now much wider than it was due to the creeping foliage which has now been removed. Well done to everyone who gave up their time to do this. I am sure that we all appreciate your great efforts.

Car Wash: The Burwash Fire and Rescue team held a very successful car wash on Saturday, when people took the opportunity to wash the winter salt and grime from their vehicles. There were masses of lovely home made cake available for refreshments and a nice sum was raised for the the services benevolent fund. I don’t have an actually amount yet, but well done to all the firefighters for your efforts and to all those who supported the event.

Jumble: The Guides and Brownies held one of their popular jumble sales on Saturday afternoon and had an amazing amount of jumble and other items donated. They would like to thank all those who helped on the day and supported by going along. These fund raising events help to keep the guides and brownies in fund to continue meeting.

Quiz: There are just two weeks left for the entries to the latest postal quiz to be returned for marking. The general feeling is that this has been one of the best as it is about something that most people know about. Many have done the quiz in record time too. If you would like a copy please send a stamped addressed envelope and £2 to Mary Taylor, 2, Holton Cottages, Spring Lane, Burwash. TN19 7HU. The closing date is 10th April.

Call my Bluff: The committee of The Burwash common Pavilion are holding one of their ever popular Call my Bluff evenings tomorrow in the Pavilion. These are so popular but you may still be able to get a seat. Just call Jan McCartney on 01435 882117. Fish & Chip supper is involved too.

Walk: the next walk for strollers will take place on Wednesday morning. Ijon Jenner will be pleased to have your company as he guides you on a gentle walk around the village. They will leave the Bear car park at 9am and return in time for lunch. You are all very welcome to go along, it is a great way to get some gentle exercise in good company and see the spring as it lights up the villages and beyond. Call Jon on 013435 882045.
