Thank you: Last Saturday we had a wonderful turn out for the jumble sale in aid of The new Wheel chair for Tyler Russell. Organised by Becki Mepham the sale was well stocked with so much to see do and buy. I have attended/ helped at many such sales and was amazed at the number of items for sale. Tyler and his mum Aggie were both there to help see things went smoothly. Thank you to everyone who gave their time to man the stalls, donated items and came along and supported. £336 was raised.

Football: The annual charity football match was held on Saturday afternoon, with many of their supporters also visiting the jumble sale in the Pavilion. This match is a local derby between the Burwash football club and the Bear. The match was hard fought and saw a win for the football club 5-3. Well done to all who took part.

Party: Tomorrow the party in the park will finally take place to celebrate the Queen’s 90th birthday. The fun will begin with a parade from the Bear car park at 1pm along the village to the playing fields in Ham Lane, led by The Pentacle drummers and the Pentax E Drummers. Patriotic dress is suggested for marchers. This will be followed by family fun at the playing fields with free games and ice creams, burgers and hotdogs. Burwash fire engine and crew and lots more. Bring your own picnics, gazebos chairs etc.

In the evening the fun will transfer to Burwash Common playing fields for a Hog Roast and music by 21 Whiskeys. the fun will begin here at 7.30pm. The licenced bar will be open. Please do go along to both events and support the hard working fund raisers who have spent most of the year preparing for this.

Service: On Sunday there will be a special service in St Bartholomew’s church for the congregation of both St Bartholomew’s and St Philip’s. This community service will be to celebrate and give thanks to the Queen on her 90th birthday. You are all very welcome to go along and join the service which will be at 5.00pm.

Flower Club: The Burwash and district flower arrangement club will have their summer meeting on Monday afternoon at the Burwash village hall at 2.15pm. Their demonstrator will be Mrs Susan Shaw working with the title Herbal Verbal. Members and visitors are welcome to go along and see how she deals with this title. The club are celebrating their emerald anniversary this year and have a special evening with the National Demonstrator Michael Bowyer on 29th June. All his demonstrated arrangements will be raffled at the end of the evening. On 6 July the club will have the annual summer outing which this year will be to Osterley Park where some of the ITV production Dr Thorne was filmed. As part of the Emerald celebrations seats for members are free but £15 for non-members. Again ring Jean Plummer if you wish to go.

Coffee Evening: The Burwash Guides and Brownies invite you to their coffee evening on Monday at their Guide hut in Vicarage lane Burwash Common from 6.30pm. They would be delighted to see you all there.

Flower Show: Next Saturday the Burwash Horticultural Society will be holding their summer Rose, Delphinium and Sweet Pea show which will include art, craft and junior classes. With a Royal Theme, this will be at the Pavilion in Swan Meadow playing fields Burwash. Entry forms can be handed in on the morning with staging between 9am and 11am. Visitors can go along from 2.15pm to 4pm. Schedules are available from The Flower House. raffle and tea and biscuits.

Stoolball: It is sad news that Stoolball will no longer be played at the Swan Meadow playing fields, Burwash. The club have had to make the hard decision to play elsewhere because of costs. Unfortunately Stoolball seems to be dying in East Sussex. When I was first involved with Burwash over 43 years ago there were so many clubs we were playing two or three times a week. now the there are just a handful of clubs left, which means less games to play and less money coming into the club. I wish the ladies every success as the take on their opponents at their new home in Punnetts town.
