Jumble sale: Tomorrow afternoon there will be a big jumble sale in the Pavilion at Swan Meadow playing fields, Ham Lane. (down past the Rose & Crown public house). This is being held by friends of Russell Tyler to help with the final expenses for his custom built wheel chair, that will give him a chance to have some normal life. Russell was born at twenty seven weeks and has quadriplegic cerebral palsy. Friends have been fund raising for some time and have had some amazing donations not lease £10,000 after someone read my article about Tyler in our village broadsheet. They have enough for the chair and are now raising the final amounts for the battery pack and wheels. Your support would be really wonderful. The sale is on from 3pm. All the usual stalls and refreshments as well as clothes that have already been sorted into sizes.

Bake off: Also tomorrow in St Bartholomew’s church there will be the annual Burwash Bake off. This year there are two categories. The first is for the Best Decorated cake and is open to all ages. This is to celebrate the Queen’s 90th birthday The cake can be homemade or shop bought and any size but they must be hand decorated by the entrant and fit for a Queen. The winning cake will be chosen by a public vote. The other category is for the Best Tasting cake. and will be decided by the judges. This cake will be auctioned of a 3.30pm. This is an all age category. Entries to the church 12 -1pm viewing and voting from 2pm. With cream teas and cake sales.

BLG: The ladies of the Burwash Ladies Group will meet on Wednesday at the Burwash village hall from 2.15pm. This group enjoy a wide variety of talks and meetings and have a monthly outing too. There is no age limitation, you can be young or old. They meet on the second Wednesday of each month throughout the year and are always pleased to welcome new members. If you are interested in joining them or finding out more the give Margot Sanderson a call on 01435 882345 or just go along on Wednesday.

After 8: The ladies of the After 8 club will also meet on Wednesday at the Pavilion in Burwash common from 7.30pm. They enjoy diverse monthly meetings with some very interesting talks and visits. They are always pleased to welcome new members so if you think this group is for you please give Jan McCartney a call on 01435 882117 or just go along on Wednesday evening.

Party in the Park: Next Saturday, 11th June, all the residents of Burwash, Burwash Weald and Burwash Common are invited to join the fun of the Party in the Parks, to celebrate The Queen’s 90th Birthday. The first part will take place at Swan Meadow playing fields from noon. Bring your own picnics and chairs, gazebos etc and make a really party of the day. There will be games etc for all to enjoy whether by participating of watching. Each person will be given a ticket for a free hotdog, burger or ice cream. The day will be all the fun you can make it. Why not get a party of your own together. The second half of the day will take place in the evening at the Burwahs Common playing fields with music and a hog roast. More details about this next Friday.

Dates: Here are some dates for your diaries, especially for those of you who enjoy visiting other people’s gardens. On Thursday & Friday 18 & 19 June Elphick’s Spring Lane will be open from 2pm to 5pm and on 2 July six gardens in the High Street will be open also from 2pm to 5pm. These are all in conjunction with the National Garden Scheme which raises money for charities.
