Love Burwash: A big thank you to the wonderful volunteers who spent last Saturday going around our three villages giving it a face lift. Divided in to separate groups they washed road signs, picked up litter, cut back brambles and hedging along the footpaths and roadside and generally spruced up the village. A good number of people gave up their time for this Parish Council initiated project, well done all of them

Tea: Tomorrow afternoon the Burwash Not So Young club invite you to join them at the village hall for their annual Autumn sale & tea event. The doors will be open from 2.30pm until 4.30pm Stall will include produce, raffle, tombola, bric-a-brac books crafts and more. Entrance is £2 and includes tea You are all welcome to go along.

Lunch: On Sunday the village hall will be full of the delicious smell of cooking, cheerful chatter and happy diners as the last of our big lunches is held. This is a thank you and farewell lunch by invitation for all the wonderful people of Burwash who have supported my fund raising efforts over the last forty years especially the lunches. All my wonderful helpers will be there too help us say thank you. We hope no one has been forgotten in the invites, a phone call to Mary on 01435 882107 would be ok to see if there are any spaces. Donations will be collected for MacMillan Nurses and Fairfield’s Surgery. Although this is the last of my five course lunches, my smaller soup lunch and the Christmas lunch will continue.

Craft morning: The Burwash & District flower arrangement club are holding a craft morning on Wednesday in the Burwash village hall from 10am to 12 noon. This is being lead by Mrs Maggie Hayes. All materials will be supplied and the charge is £10 per person. To book a place please call Jean Plummer on 01435 883483.

Bowls: The Burwash short mat bowls club have played two games in the Wealden league division 2. The first was away to new club Rotherfield. In the triples Wayne Reed, Angela Marden & Gavin Wood won 11-10, Margaret Waterhouse, Joan Howard & Alan Green won 11-7. The pairs Keith Marden & Keith Wood won 17-9 and Barry & Mary Taylor won 25-5. The next game was at home to Chailey the triples Keith & Angela Marden and Gavin Wood won 28-5 and Margaret Waterhouse, Mary Taylor & Alan Green won 16-11. The pairs were Cherry Taylor & Alec Martin who won 20-11 and Julie Hawkins and Keith Wood 24-5. This is a great start to the team and gives them 16 league points. The club wish Joan Howard, Thilo Kork & Barry Taylor a speedy recovery from their various operations.

BEM: Last Tuesday was a very special day for me. A visit to the Royal Pavilion Brighton to receive my British Empire Medal awarded to me in the Queen’s birthday honours list. I was accompanied by my husband Barry, my baby sister Gill Saunders, my Canadian cousin Gail Delong and my best friend Shirley Pope. We had a really lovely day, the awards was in a relaxed atmosphere presented by the Lord Lieutenant of East Sussex. Three other worthy people also received the award. The day ended with a fabulous supper for 90 family & friends at the Bear, where the staff did an amazing job of keeping us all happy. I am very grateful to the lovely people who nominated me for this award and to the wonderful people of Burwash who have given me so much love and support over the last forty years of fund raising and voluntary work.
