Burwash

Festive evening: A big thank you to everyone involved with the Burwash festive evening last week. The whole event was superb. The Bear hosted the stalls and was packed at one point. The children especially loved the reindeer and Santa’s grotto. The Drummers were again very good and could be heard for some distance from the village. All in all a very happy and enjoyable occasion.

Christmas trees: The St Bartholomew’s Christmas tree festival was also a wonderful event. The church looked magical with so many beautifully decorated trees. Many of the villages’ groups and societies had chosen to decorate a tree in the hope of advertising their club etc. Well done to all who took part and especially the organisers. The whole weekend was topped off with a delightful carol service.

Coffee: The village hall held a very enjoyable coffee morning last week. Love gifts, books CDs and bric a brac, Beautiful cards and wrapping paper by pheonix cards. Delicious home made cakes to buy or sample with a coffee. The big raffle was drawn during the event, tickets had been sold throughout the Autumn. Well done to Linda who one the first two prizes and has donated half the first prize back to the hall. With the raffle we made almost £500. Thank you to everyone for their support.

Dinner: Also on Monday the members and guests of the Not So Young club will be sitting down to enjoy their annual Christmas dinner at the Bear. This is always a delightful event and much enjoyed by all who go along.

On Wednesday the annual Get together lunch will be held. This too is held at the Bear but is run by volunteers who help with the prepping of the vegetables and then serve it after the staff have cooked it. Over one hundred senior citizens are invited to this event which is funded by fund raising and a raffle on the day.

Bowls: The Burwash shortmat Bowls club have played two matches in the Wealden league. They had an away game against Chiddingly which was great fun but they lost 1-3. Then they had a home fixture against Herstmonceux which again was fun and saw a 2-2 draw. This only gave Burwash 6 league points in the division two table.
