Christmas Trees: The St Bartholomew’s Church Christmas tree festival begins today with a preview evening at 7pm. Entry is £5 payable at the door, mulled wine and mince pies will be served. The church will be lit by dozens of Christmas trees decorated by different village organisations. The festival will open again tomorrow from 10am to 4pm. Refreshments will be available and a raffle will be held and a produce stall. Music will be played during the day. On Sunday the festival will be from 10am to 5pm. Again music, refreshments and raffle. The festival will close with an informal carol concert and all are welcome to join in. Entry on Saturday and Sunday is free.

Xmas Bazaar: The Church of Christ the King will be holding their annual Christmas bazaar tomorrow afternoon, at the Burwash village hall. This annual event is always one to visit as they have good quality gifts, etc for sale. There will be a raffle, tombola, cakes, books & games and much more. Do go along, refreshments will also be available.

Toy & Crib service: On Sunday morning the there will be the annual toy & crib service in St Bartholomew’s church. at 10am. This lovely service when toys and donations are collected fro the Chichester Diocesan Association for Family support work. This special service will be followed by refreshments and time to chat. New toys will go to those families who unfortunately find Christmas and birthdays a very stressful time. Good secondhand toys will are added to the charity’s resources for their work in the Play therapy and Day Out sessions throughout the year. During the service the blessing of the crib will take place and children will be invited to take their toy offering to the crib.

After Eight: The Burwash Weald & Burwash Common After Eight club are planning their Christmas dinner which will take place on 17th December at the Pavilion. This lively club for ladies meet once a month after 8pm. They have wide and varied programme of meetings in the Pavilion at Burwash Common. Some of them will gather at the Pavilion on Thursday morning to decorate it ready for their festive activities. Bowls: The short mat bowls club have had three matches since I last reported on them. The first was a home fixture against Five Ashes. Triples Joan Howard, Irene Bell & Margaret Waterhouse lost 10-16 & Wayne Reed, Angela Marden and Gavin Wood won 11-9. Pairs Keith Marden & Keith Wood drew 12 all and Alan Green & Mary Taylor won 12-8. The next was an away fixture to Hailsham Martlets. Triple Joan, Irene & Margaret won 17-12 & Wayne, Angela & Gavin won 21-3. Pairs Keith Wood & Keith Marden won 24-5 and Alan & Mary won 14-9. The last game was at home to Jarvis Brook. Joan, Irene & Margaret lost 13-14 but Wayne, Angela & Gavin won 13-5. Pairs Alan & Mary lsot 7-15 but hte two Keiths won 16-10. This gave Burwash 17 league points from the last three matches. The club will next play at home to Horma gunners on Thursday.
