Last Saturday, Mother of two, Laura Carver took part in the London to Brighton run. Despite getting soaked and having sodden and blistered feet she made it to the end. She left London at 7am, stopping for comfort and lunch, after which she walked, then jogged before running again. With her wonderful family supporting her all the way she reached her destination at 11.45pm. Laura says she was really impressed with the organisation of this run and with all the stewards making this possibly one of the best events she has taken part in. She was running in memory of her sister Becky, raising money for St Peter & St James hospice. Her sponsor forms are in Londis and the Bear. Well done laura, we are all extremely proud of you.

Last Friday, the Burwash Ladies stoolball team had their first league match of the year when they played at home to Chiddingly. Chiddingly won the toss and chose to bat with Emma scoring 28 and Rhiannon 31 to reach 113 for 8 of 13 overs. Becky Waterhouse took three wickets for 30 runs and three great catches. Burwash then took the bat and with steady determination from Toni 77 retired and Nicky MacKay 32 retired passed their target to reach 136 for 0 of their 13 overs. A good win for the start of the season. The team will next play at home to United Friends tonight.

90 year Old Air Commodore Charles Clarke OBE will be giving a special talk on Thursday evening at All Saints Church, Old Heathfield at 7.30pm.Mr Clarke is President of the Royal Air Foeces Ex-Prisoner of War Association and Chairman of Bomber Command Association. He flew 18 operations including raids on Berlin, Stuttgart and Leipzig. He was a POW in Stalaag LUft 3 and experienced the retribution of The Great Escape. His talk will no doubt be interesting and full of details of those dreadful times. Tickets are available from Vicki Colne on 01435 862695 at £5 each.

The ladies of the Burwash Common After Eight club will be taking a walk for their June meeting. They will start and finish at the Star in Heathfield. The walk which is being organised by Birdie Johnson will be for all members and any well behaved dogs & husbands. The walk will end with a meal at the Star. Please call Jan McCartney for more details. The after Eight club organised a coffee morning in aid of Admiral Nurses, Dementia care in the community and rainsed £1,030 in just two hours. Well done them and thank you to all who supported them.

The pavilion at Burwash Common recently held their AGM. The meeting heard that the Burwash Common cricket club were in great need of players as some of them were still at University & college. They also heard that funds were available for a new tractor shed, improvements to the disabled parking area and other projects. Reports were that the monthly quiz night was always popular and usually a sell out, but the music night could use more support. The music being of a wide variety and therefore something for all tastes. The music night is on hte fourth friday of the month.

The next monthly whist drive will be held on Thursday evenning at the village hall from 7pm. These are fun evenings with some laughter and great comeraderie. Entry is £3 and includes light refreshmentas. There is also a raffle held. Players of all abilities are welcome to join the fun. Partners are not required so don’t stay away because you are on your own or your partner doesn’t play.
