Burwash

Last week Margaret Swift held an afternoo tea event at her home in aid of St Michael’s Hospice. There was a delicious array of cakes and plenty of people who went along to enjoy her lovely garden with congenial company and a nice cup of tea & cake. Thank you margaret for hosting the tea, to everyone who supported her by making cakes, making tea & washing up. Over £200 was raised for the Hospice.

On Sunday the Monday Quilters group held another of their lovely exhibitions, displaying the beautiful handmade quilts they had made. They had a good turn out of visitors who can only have been impressed by the ladies work. Proceeds from this also went to St Michael’s Hospice. Will report on how much was made next week

Everyone was holding their breathe on Sunday morning that the weather would remain dry for the planned Party on the green, to celebrate St George’s day. And it did. The turn out was good and there were lots of things going on. Kite flying, throw the ball in the dragons flame, catch the ducks, how many sweets in a jar and try avoid being squited with water, a firm favourite of all the children, although i think they had more fun being squirted. There was also a Maypole with which Rhiannon Rees had great fun with the children. There was a barbecue and popcorn machine, and everyone took picnic food with them. Thanks to everyone who turned up, to Rod Clifton, who’s idea this was, Tania & Michael Cheshire for opening their home for comfort, We all had a great day, thank you.

There are still a few places available for the Charity lunch which is being held on Sunday 11th May at the Burwash village hall, from 12.30pm for 1pm. There is a menu of choices for the three course freshly cooked lunch, with coffee & mints. Light entertainment will also be part of the proceedings. The proceeds are going to help young Aaron Foord, who has been picked to join the world Scout jamboree in Japan in 2016. He needs to raise £3,000 to be able to go. This is my way of helping this nice polite young man to reach his target. To book a place at £18 per person, tables will hold up to 8, please call Mary on 01453 882107. Aaron and his family will be there to meet you.

On Monday evening the Burwash common Pavilion and playing fields will be holding their AGM in the pavilion at 7.30pm. Everyone is welcome to go along and support and give their views. They would be happy for you to be interested in joining the committee, give Halina Keep a call on 01435 882183. The summer matches have begun with a stoolball game last night and the first cricket match of the season tomorrow at Heathfield Park. We wish both clubs a successful season.
