Burwash

This is the last day for posting your cards in the Brownies post boxes situated in the Burwash News agents and Jarvis’ Butchers. It costs 20p per card to use this service, money and cards should be popped into the boxes, which will be collected sat 4pm today ready for sorting. Delivery will be tomorrow from 10am. Please address envelopes clearly and make sure only local cards are put in. We often receive cards for other villages which means they either don’t get sent or we have to dip into our proceeds for stamps.

Places are still available for the Christmas day lunch at the village hall. We will take bookings right up until we sit down to eat. No one is ever turned away. If you would like to join us please call Mary on 01435 882107 before 9am on Christmas day, or 882910 after that. It is £10 per person for a delicious three course freshly cooked meal, wine, festive cheer and friendship. You don’t have to live in Burwash to use us.

On Sunday the Burwash short mat bowls club will be having their Christmas lunch and awards. This year for the first time they are holding it at the bear motel. 31 members, ex members and their partners will dine and awards for the Memorial cup, Presidents cup, Mary Groombridge Trophy and the Pairs shield will be given by President Eddie Workman MBE. The club will break until 6th January.

The last meeting of the year was held for the members of the Community Weight loss Challenge, at Which Cath was the biggest loser and received a cash reward. The new twelve week course will start on 7th January in the Annex of Christ the king catholic church and is open to men and ladies. No public weigh-in, but friendly help and like minded people all willing to support each other. The twelve weeks cost £39 and you can book a space by calling Sue Tonkin on 01892 784741.
