A BURWASH based charity which helps families in Africa is offering places in the Brighton Marathon in April. GardenAfrica funds sustainable horticultural training to enable gardeners and smallholder farmers in sub-Saharan Africa maximise production from their land.
They are currently working on projects in South Africa, Swaziland, Namibia and Zimbabwe. Organers say that with support, more of the most vulnerable communities can be helped to produce their own food and have the best chance of a sustainable and healthy future.
They work in partnership with non-governmental organisations to design and implement garden related projects aimed at reducing poverty and malnutrition. And they say improving the food intake of communities through the creation of training and resource gardens, can help overcome many of the major health challenges facing Africa today.
Previous running experience is not needed. If you want to get fit this year then get in touch as soon as possible. GardenAfrica will help runners with training programmes, clothing advice and access to training runs. Ring: 01435 882475 or visit: www.gardenafrica.org.uk
