Business park and 1100 new homes

A "MASTERPLAN" for the long-discussed creation of a business park and 1,100-home development was revealed this week.

Now Rother District Council is asking people in Bexhill for their views on the proposed guidelines for the use of land at Sidley and Worsham.

Land to the north of the town has been allocated for development in the Local Plan. But the council wants local people to help shape its form and layout.

It has been working with a number of organisations in preparing the draft Masterplan for public consultation.

Copies of the document may be viewed online at www.rother.gov.uk/ldf or at Bexhill Community Help Point or obtained (price 5.00 + 0.50 p&p) from the help point or from the Strategy and Environment Section, Planning Division, Rother District Council, Town Hall, Bexhill-on-Sea, TN39 3JX (tel. 01424 787634).

Exhibitions are being held to encourage the involvement of local people in refining the proposals.

The first will be at Sidley Community Centre on Monday from 1pm to 7pm.

Others will be at Pebsham Community Centre next Friday from 1pm to 7pm and at the De La Warr Pavilion next Saturday from 10am until 3pm. Lead cabinet member Cllr Brian Kentfield said: "It is vital that the council gets this development right so that it can play an effective part in providing local housing, bringing jobs and improving local services in the town, including open spaces.

"We also want it to set a new standard for sustainable living.

Local people need to be involved in this process and I would encourage everyone to look at the document and visit one of the exhibitions."

Both schemes are dependent on the proposed Bexhill-Hastings Link Road being approved.

The timetable set out in the Masterplan is to get the Masterplan approved this year, submit an outline planning application next year and for construction to start in 2010 -a year after the projected start of work on the Link Road.

First occupation of the business units and new housing is projected for 2011 when the Link Road is scheduled to open.

Comments on the Masterplan must be received in writing by 4.30pm on Friday, July 27. They can be made online via the Council's website.
