Business women helpdogs’ home after fire

Business women in Little Common have rallied round to come to the aid of the Manchester Dogs’ Home which was gutted by fire last month. Dozens of dogs died and more than 150 were injured.

The tragic story touched a nerve with Carla and Hannah from The Clip Joint Grooming Salon and Cheryl and Paije from The Dogs Bakery, situated in the Village Mews, Little Common, and they were determined to help in any way they could.

Hannah said: “Sadly mroe than 50 dogs perished in the fire; some lucky ones escaped and were left roaming the streets. These have been rounded up and taken with over 120 survivors to the Cheshire Home where the long business of creating new shelters for them begins. Hopefully some will be found homes quickly as rescue dogs but in the meantime they all need to be fed, exercised and have a bed to sleep in.

“The dogs are in desperate need of supplies.”

Carla, Hannah, Cheryl and Paije made up a parcel of essential supplies, including food, treats, bowls, blankets, brushes, collars and leads to send to the Manchester and Cheshire Dogs’ Homes.

Carla said the suspected arson, in which so many animals died or were injured, was heartbreaking. “You don’t go into our business unless you love dogs and if you love dogs you can’t stand by and watch them suffering.

“I can’t begin to comprehend the mindless actions of the teenager who police are questioning for this crime; not only causing suffering to the dogs but putting 40 fire-fighters at risk. When Cheryl asked if we would like to join in and send supplies we were delighted to help. We like to do our bit locally too and this week we have also given kitten and dog food to the RSPCA shop in Western Road, which often has a request in its window for donations to feed the animals in their centres in Bexhill and Hastings.”

The Clip Joint and The Dogs Bakery are still collecting supplies for the Manchester Dogs Home and welcome more donations.
