A team of apprentices at leading car dealership Caffyns plc, who helped the company win a prestigious award, gathered to celebrate their achievements.
Caffyns employs 28 apprentices, making up almost 6.5 per cent of the entire workforce, and in September the company beat hundreds of entries to become the South East Apprenticeship Large Employer of the Year 2012.
The apprentices met at the company’s new Land Rover dealership in Lewes for an official celebration event at which Chief Executive Simon Caffyn said the young men and women would become the business managers of tomorrow. He said: “2012 was a fantastic year for Caffyns, and much of that success is thanks to our apprentices, who undoubtedly will grow and develop into our company leaders. This event was our chance to thank them for their dedication and hard work.”
Sarah Caffyn, Human Resources Director, challenged the apprentices to come up with suggestions on how to improve the business, with the best idea winning an off road driving experience at the Land Rover test facility in the West Midlands.
Among those at the event was Thomas Wickham, 22, of Five Ash Down, a website and social media apprentice at Caffyns’ head office in Eastbourne. Among the schemes he has introduced are videos showing off the company’s used cars which are available on the company’s various YouTube channels.
He said: “This opportunity has enabled me to progress in my career and learn, which is excellent.”
Apprentices employed by Caffyns are trained to the highest level possible, with nearly all apprentices moving on to permanent employment with the company.
The company will be recruiting for new apprentices in February; details will be found at www.caffyns.co.uk
