Multi-award winning tech start-up expands with growth loan

Two friends have successfully grown their tech business in Eastbourne and have now embarked on their largest expansion yet with the help of a growth loan from Let’s Do Business Finance.

Brenden West and Liam Cooper met while working at a computer shop in Brighton.

And when the opportunity arose to take over the shop they jumped at the chance.

In 2011 the pair relocated Laptop Station to the Enterprise Centre on Station Road in central Eastbourne.

Since then the laptop sales and repair shop has grown from strength to strength.

To continue their growth plans this year, the pair needed a cash injection to refurbish the shop and re-do the website. Their bank wasn’t able to help them so they turned to Let’s Do Business Finance

They were approved for a growth loan of £25,000 in May of this year, giving them the capital they needed to scale-up the Laptop Station.

Brenden explained: “While the business is performing well and we are seeing growth year-on-year we wanted to push the business to the next level.

“In order to do this we needed additional funding.

“LDB has enabled us to begin our largest expansion to date with a complete overhaul of the store and workshop. It will also enable us to relaunch our website offering a UK wide repair service alongside an online store.

“The great thing about LDB is that you talk to a person, who actually makes the decision based on facts and figures, not what a computer says.”

LDBF is the finance arm of the Let’s Do Business Group, they offer companies an alternative source of commercial finance to help them grow and expand.

In the past year, they’ve lent almost £750,000 to businesses in the South East sustaining or creating 336 jobs.

Business development manager at LDBF, Sarah Vinall worked with Brenden and Liam throughout the application process. She said: “Brenden and Liam presented a strong business case and both showed great passion and dedication in continuing to grow the business.

“It was a pleasure to work with them and I’m delighted that we were able to help them continue their growth and expansion plans. We wish them all the best for the future.”

Over the next year Laptop Station will focus on growing their online presence and establishing themselves as the go to place for repairs and refurbished equipment. The pair also have plans to

open additional branches.

Laptop Station is undergoing major refurbishment throughout July but will re-open in August with a re-launch party.
