Busy day for firefighters
NEW Year's Day was a busy one for Bexhill's firefighters. What started with a flooded flat at Knole Road at ten minutes past midnight ended 24 hours later with a blazing Volkswagen Transporter at Broadoak Park.
Between those calls, crews had dealt with a lunch-time kitchen fire at a house in Collington Lane West. Two pumps attended. Two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus to combat smoke put out a blaze which left the kitchen damaged and the house smoke-damaged.
At 4.10pm they were called to Ravenside retail park where a lamp post was alight. The fire was extinguished with a hosereel jet.
