Busy day for Littlehampton lifeboats

LITTLEHAMPTON'S lifeboat crews were bust on Friday (April 9), when they were called out morning and night.

The first was at 7.06am, after a member of the public saw a small boat adrift near Elmer rock islands, and dialled 999, but when crews found it was deserted.

The dinghy was towed back to Littlehampton and moored at Fisherman's Quay, but crews were called out again, to a vessel in distress six miles south east of Littlehampton harbour entrance, at 8.45pm.

The 21ft recreational angling boat, which had been fishing at Kingmere and suffered fuel problems, was towed back to its moorings at Ford Marina.

Nick White, Littlehampton's lifeboat operations manager said: "It's very easy to get caught out with engine problems at sea. The two men crew aboard the fishing vessel were well prepared with VHF radio and mobile phones so therefore were able to call for assistance."
