Busy Easter for fire crews after Storm Katie wreaks havoc

Storm Katie caused a large number of weather-related incidents for East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service in the early hours of March 28.

At 01:18, firefighters removed a trampoline which had been blown into the road at Cavendish Close, Peacehaven.

At 01:56, the area was made safe by firefighters after a chimney pot fell into the road on Wallsend Road in Pevensey.

At 02:34, crews attended an address on Myrtle Road in Crowborough to reports of flooding affecting electrics. Water was entering two rooms due to storm damage and salvage was carried out the firefighters.

At 02:47, firefighters made a tree safe after it was found to be affecting the A275 in Chailey.

At 05:09, firefighters attended Herstmonceux Castle. There were reports of a fire in a maintenance area but it was a false alarm due to shorted security light from the storm.

At 06:38, firefighters were called to reports of dangerous roof sheeting at a petrol station on Hailsham Road in Polegate. The area was made safe.

At 06:59, crews secured a window which was hanging above a road from a property on the A271 Windmill Hill.

At 07:22 one appliance from Newhaven mobilised to Chene Road, Peacehaven. On arrival they found a loose roof on a caravan. The structure was made safe by crews.

At 07:28 one appliance from Seaford mobilised to Talland Parade, Seaford after reports of a dangerous roof. On arrival crew made the area safe using Access Safety Kit (ASK).

At 07:35 one appliance from Crowborough were called to reports of a dangerous chimney structure on Western Gardens, Crowborough. On arrival crews confirmed that a chimney stack was in an unsafe position. Using a 15 meter ladder and Access Safety Kit (ASK) crews made the structure safe.

At 08:33 one appliance from Hailsham attended a dislodged flat roof on Station Road, Polegate. Crews made the scene safe.

At 08:42 and 09:01 one appliance from Crowborough came across a two trees down in the road on Crowborough Hill, Crowborough and Rotherfield Hill, Rotherfield. Crews removed the trees from the carriage way and made the area safe.

At 09:03 one appliance from Hailsham attended a dangerous structure on South Road, Hailsham. Crews made the structure safe.

At 09:58 one appliance from Wadhurst attended Sparrows Green, Wadhurst to assist with clearing a tree from the road.

At 10:04 one appliance from Uckfield attended Redbrook Lane, Buxted and cordoned of the area after a tree had fallen on to an electricity cable. UK power networks were requested an advice was given to local residents.

At 10:25 one appliance from Pevensey crews partially cleared the road at Rattle Road, Westham after a tree had fallen. Power lines were across part of the road way and UK power networks were contacted to make this safe.

At 10:32 one appliance from Wadhurst attended Best Beech, Wadhurst where a tree had fallen onto a property causing a collapsed chimney stack. The road was cordoned off by the fire service and the incident handed to the highways agency to remove a large oak tree from the highway.

At 11:02 one appliance from Uckfield made a dangerous fence structure on Broyle lane, Ringmer safe.

At 11:59 one appliance from Burwash removed a dangerous aerial from a roof on School Hill, Burwash using a short extension and roof ladder.

At 12:46 one appliance from Hailsham attended loose roof sheeting at the Cophall Roundabout, Hailsham. The area was cordoned off by crews and left in the hands of the building inspector.

At 13:13 one appliance from Heathfield crews assisted the highways agency with three dangerous tree overhanging the A272 at Heathfield.

At 15:52 one appliance from Seaford attended The Esplanade, Seaford where two large phone masts were hanging over the pathway. Crews made it safe before handing the scene to a responsible person.

At 16:04 one appliance from Hailsham removed a dangerous aerial from between two properties on Ashford Close, Hailsham using a 16 meter ladder.

At 16:32 one appliance from Newhaven cordoned off an area on Cavell Avenue, Peacehaven due to dangerous tiles.

At 19:57 one appliance from Uckfield extinguished a small fire in the open on The Drive, Church Coombe, Uckfield.

At 22:00 one appliance from Hailsham attended a road traffic collision on the A22 northbound at Hailsham. No one was trapped. Crews made the vehicle and the scene safe.
