Busy night for East Sussex firefighters

Firefighters were called to fires in Peacehaven, Burwash, Hailsham and Uckfield yesterday (Wednesday, April 14).

Shortly before 4.30pm, one appliance from Newhaven attended reports of a small fire in gorse in Howard Park, South Coast Road, Peacehaven.

Crews damped down the fire and provided advice to residents in the area before leaving the scene at 4:49pm.

At 6:47pm, one appliance from Heathfield attended a chimney fire on Shrub Lane, Burwash.

Crews used a chimney fire kit to extinguish the fire. Firefighters left the scene at 8pm after making the area safe.

At 8:51pm, one appliance from Hailsham was mobilised to reports of a van fire on the A22 Eastbound at Polegate.

On arrival, crews used breathing apparatus, foam and one hose reel to extinguish the fire. The cause has been determined as accidental. Firefighters left the scene at 9:36pm.

At 10:36pm, two appliances from Uckfield attended reports of smoke issuing from a property on Ridgewood, Uckfield.

On arrival, crews gained entry to the property and discovered there had been a small fire in the ground floor kitchen area. A positive pressure fan was used to ventilate the area. Firefighters left the scene at 11:11pm.

At 4:19am this morning (Thursday, April 14), two appliances from Eastbourne and Pevensey attended a road traffic collision on Normans Bay Road, Pevensey.

The incident was reported as involving one private car with the driver trapped. On arrival, it was confirmed that no one was trapped. Crews made the scene safe before leaving the area at 4:48am.

At 06:45am, two appliances from Lewes and Seaford were mobilised to the A27 at Alciston after reports of a road traffic collision.

The incident involved three vehicles. On arrival crews confirmed that one person was trapped. One adult female was released by the fire service. Firefighters left the scene at 7:28am.
