Busy time for St Richards youngsters

It has been a busy but rewarding few weeks for Gifted and Talented pupils at St. Richard's Catholic College.

Sixteen of them from Year 8 joined 80 from other schools in the Bexhill Consortium for a PGL trip at Windmill Hill.

Activities included fencing, archery and special activities on a zip wire and a giant swing.

Year 9 pupils enjoyed a Young Sports Leaders day this week at Beacon School and a group of year 7 and year 10 pupils attended "The Apprentice" Gifted and Talented Conference at Ringmer Community College.

This was an educational, entertaining and stimulating experience and St. Richard's year 7 pupil, Ethan Durkin, was the overall runner up on the day.

Year 8 gifted and talented Science pupils participated in an environmental science workshop at the Ninfield centre and used a variety of equipment to use in experiments around the woodland surrounding the centre.

The highlight of the month's activities took place when St. Richard's hosted a day of special master classes and lectures on Maths and Science. As a part of the St. Richard's role as both a Gifted and Talented lead school and a Specialist Science school, pupils from many local primary and secondary schools were welcomed to join the day's activities. The first master classes of the day were lead by Johnny Ball who enthralled pupils with his talk about the wonders of Maths and Science. In the afternoon, students took part in practical workshops with Dr. Darren Baskill and Iain Pert in the laboratories.
