Cadets awarded for helping Poppy Appeal

Each cadet was presented with a certificate for spending at least 20 hours of voluntary time helping with the Royal British Legion’s 2012 Poppy Appeal.

Chief Petty Officer Steve Smith of Rye Sea Cadets said: “Being one of Rye’s last remaining youth groups, it’s important to show the community how our young people are engaged in positive activities. The cadets didn’t hesitate when the call for help went out.”

The cadets covered a number of two hour slots around Rye in some rather miserable weather and collected just short of £400.

Rye Sea Cadets would like to exceed this total in 2013 and are currently recruiting new junior cadets aged 10 to 12 and older cadets aged 12 to 18.

Rye Sea cadets take part in a variety of activities including, Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, band, canoeing, mountain biking, rock climbing, navigation and chartwork, seamanship, marine engineering, first aid and the BTEC Level 2 diploma in public services amongst many other activities.

Rye Sea Cadets are now recruiting for juniors 10 – 12 years old on Fridays 7pm - 9pm, and seniors 12 – 18 on Mondays and Fridays 7pm - 9pm.
