Cadets start year on a high

The Cadets held a special presentation evening on Tuesday where the ‘Ships Company’ was recognised for its achievement and hard work over the past 12 months.

The evening saw 12 trophies and several qualifications being awarded along with two new young people being accepted into the Sea Cadets.

It has been another extremely busy year with the Cadets taking part in many civic functions around the area including Mayor Making, the Winchelsea Gala and Remembrance Day.

Chief Petty Officer Steven Smith, the Units Officer in Charge said: “This has been another good year for Rye and District Sea Cadets and we are hoping to build on our numbers for 2012 and have an even more successful year.”

There are currently 24 cadets at Rye aged between 10 and 18 and many of them have taken part in canoeing, sailing power, boating and more.

The following cadets, pictured here from left to right, won trophies: H. Paterson, Boatwork Plate for most hours boating in 2011;  A. Austen, Seamanship Trophy; C. Paterson, most promising cadet under one year / Meteorology Cadet Trophy; G. Blandford, First Aid; CPO Steven Smith, Officer in Charge; J. Austen, Best attendance; T. Best, Best Junior Cadet; E. Jury and E. Wells, Major Hobbs Ceremonial Tankard;  J. Fitzpatrick, Highest Air Rifle Shot; J. Clark, Highest Score in Cook Stewards.
