Calendar call for pub

The landlord and regulars at the Nelson pub in the Old Town have produced another stunning calendar to raise money for a deserving charity.

Photographer Paddy Boyle has created some fantastical scenes, shot in the historic pub and using locals as models.

Paddy is still keeping some of the best scenes under-wraps but revealed a few images, including one of regulars, dressed as Star Trek characters beaming down in the pub and another featuring local character Pat ‘The Hat’ Mitchell as a wild west snake-oil salesman selling his elixir to an eager crowd from the back of a wagon.

One scene pays homage to science fiction B movies with an astronaut being threatened by pub regulars dressed as insect-like aliens called Terror of the Slug Men.

The front cover depicts the exterior of the pub being taken over by Looney Tunes cartoon characters.

The pub decided to go ahead with the project following the success of last year’s calendar, which included striking images such as regulars taking the place of disciples at Leonardo Da Vinci’s famous Last Supper painting.

Paddy Boyle said: “It is all good fun and a major part of the profits go to the charity Tree of Hope, the choice of pub landlord Jack Doyle.”

Calendars are now on sale at the pub and cost £12 each, or if you buy three you get a fourth calendar free.

The Tree of Hope charity offers hope to the families of sick and disabled children in the UK who need specialist medical surgery, treatment and therapy in order to free them from suffering, giving a better quality to their young lives.

They fund grants for specialist medical treatment in the UK and treatment by medical specialists abroad, where the specific knowledge and facilities are available.
