CALL FOR ACTION ON A27

BUSINESS support organisation Sussex Enterprise has written to the Minister for Transport urging him to set out a timetable for exactly when improvements to the increasingly congested A27 will take place.

The group which represents businesses across Sussex is particularly concerned that serious traffic problems are crippling businesses in the area.

The Minister, Dr Stephen Ladyman, MP, is expected to make a decision this year about which road schemes across the UK will be a priority during the period 2011 to 2016.

The business community wants to make sure that Sussex doesn't get left out of the Government's investment plans.

Many proposed improvements to the A27 were rejected by the government back in 2003 leaving businesses feeling disappointed and ignored.

In his letter to Dr Ladyman, Mark Froud, chief executive of Sussex Enterprise, said: 'The Sussex road network is in desperate need of improvements.

'It is our concern that unless improvements are made, not only will businesses be deterred from investing in the area, but some businesses may be forced to re-locate from Sussex.'
