According to Itchingfield Parish Council the parish is now ‘well advanced’ with its Neighbourhood Plan following the creation of the Neighbourhood Plan Steering Group last year.

The group is now asking for interested parties to put forward any land that they wish to be considered for housing, business and recreational use along with any community benefits which these sites could provide.

Neighbourhood plans allow local residents the chance to decide where they would like new homes, shops and offices to be built in the area. They also allow people to have their say on what those new buildings should look like and grant permission for any new buildings they want to see go ahead.

Since the establishment of the Steering Group, members have been tackling specific issues to establish the best possible set of recommendations, ideas and potential outcomes for the Itchingfield parish.

In July a survey was conducted with the help of Action in Rural Sussex (AiRs) which aimed to address a wide variety of issues and concerns among residents. Around 41 per cent responded and the feedback was analysed and assessed.

The findings were discussed and debated at a public meeting in October attended by more than a hundred residents.

Chairman of Itchingfield Parish Council, Penny Simpson said: “I am delighted with the progress that we have made with our Neighbourhood Plan.

“Ian Walker (chairman of the Neighbourhood Plan Steering Group) and his team have done an outstanding job and the response and interest from the residents has shown just how important planning issues are particularly in a small community like ours.”
