Calls to resurface Queensway

Motorists using the new Bexhill-Hastings Link Road, which comes out on to Queensway, have noticed a striking difference between the surfaces of the two major roads.

Whereas the Combe Valley Way has yet to be marred by a single pothole, those travelling along Queensway find themselves in for a bumpy ride.

The road is covered in potholes and the surface is seriously worn in places.

Cllr Phil Scott, East Sussex County Councillor for Hollington and Wishing Tree, said the road surface is “extremely defective” in places and fears it could lead to a fatality.

Cllr Scott said: “With the building of the Bexhill to Hastings Link Road and its near perfect surface it really has exposed now just how bad the road surface is on Queensway which as we all know is a fast moving road with a history of fatalities going back over its 30 year history.

“The surface is extremely defective in places with large areas of potholes and patches and needs immediate attention, my immediate concerns are that motorcyclists may be thrown from their motorbikes and seriously injured or even killed.

“I have previously raised this with ESCC who have yet to take any action.”

An East Sussex County Council spokesman said: “One of our highways stewards has been out to have a look at this road and has noted that there has been some wear and tear to the road surface in some areas.

“We will be looking into this further to see if we can schedule this road for improvements.

“However, our limited resources mean we have to prioritise work to those roads which are in greatest need of repair.”
