Camber gets continental help

A delegation from Oostende spent two days in Rother sharing best practice in how to deliver attractive open spaces for residents and visitors.

The visit was part of the ’21st Century Parks’ project which has attracted European funding to improve facilities in Camber and at Egerton Park, in Bexhill.

The partnership between Rother District Council and Stad Oostende has secured almost £1million of funding to improve open spaces in Rother and Oostende.

To qualify for the EU funded programme called INTERREG, European regions have to work together and share their experience.

Walking routes will be developed at Camber, along with a redevelopment of the central car park and old putting green, an environmental assessment and traffic impact assessment.

The two partner organisations, who were joined by colleagues from Natural England, Green Space, the Environment Agency, parish councils and East Sussex County Council, spent a day touring Camber and later Bexhill.

The following day was spent in workshops, sharing knowledge and examples of best practice and developing the pilot in detailed design for delivery in the next phase of the project.
