Following an application by the district council, Hastings Magistrates made an order on Wednesday (January 27) closing the premises until the council is satisfied that the health risk has been removed.

The owners of Camber Castle employed a pest control company following the council ‘s discovery and have been carrying out extensive cleaning.

Cllr Ian Hollidge, RDC’s cabinet member for environment, transport and the public realm, said: “Mice are incontinent and their urine could easily contaminate food, leading to serious health problems for customers. Our officers acted quickly to protect the public and I am pleased that the court made the order to close the premises and protect public health.”

RDC will decide when the pub is safe to reopen.
