Camber village voice - March 23

A villager needed to leave his home and be rehoused due to circumstances completely beyond his control, The house he was leaving needed to be completely emptied, he wasn’t able to clear it himself. The only option was to get house clearance people in. There would be a cost for this service and non of the value of any contents sold would be reimbursed to him. Some of his neighbours heard of the situation and volunteered to undertake the huge task. They decided to use eBay and have car boot sales, making sure that all the money realized would go to him, They approached Rye Auctions who took some of the furniture and generously decided not to take their commission to make their contribution to helping. Last but not least, another Camber villager offered to store furniture that would be needed in the future, again, with no charge. All told the people involved in these wonderful acts of kindness and neighbourliness spanned 4 generations, there were around 12 people working together. Camber has a heart.

Remember the village Jubilee Fete 9 June. Help is still needed, don’t worry about exactly what you can do, just phone Trish, 01797 224 403 or Ann 01797 222 474 and tell them what time you can offer and they will do the rest. There will be another Lent Group on Thursday at 6.30pm in the church, you will be most welcome if you can get along. It’s all very informal and enjoyable, give it a try. It was interesting to read some of the history of Johnson’s Field in the Camber Community Newsletter for February. It was encouraging to note that Councillor Pat Brazier comments that there has been a decline in the upkeep of the area with the passage of time, but that recently arrangements have been made to care for it during the spring and summer months so that it will be rejuvenated. Dan’s Diary: Its been a busy week this week, with lots going on in Camber, on the 10th 2 caravans were reported being broken into and items stolen these crimes are currently being investigated, but we urge owners to remove any valuable items from their caravans including televisions when they are not being used, and if possible leave curtains wide open, also on the 10th a vehicle was stopped travelling through the village by sussex Police Traffic units and warnings for possession of drugs were issued after a search of the vehicle was made, A busy week for the beach too, with 3 vehicles being caught driving on the beach, 2 of these got stuck and had to be recovered, all the vehicles and drivers received Section 59 Warnings from the police reform act 2002, Please be aware it is an offence to use your vehicle on the beach with out permission, which could lead to it being seized by police, also in Camber this week a male was bitten by a dog outside the Gilcrests store on Lydd road, this is currently being investigated, Rob Cass at the Coastal Office has been busy, he has issued fixed penalty tickets for dog fouling on the beach, if you have any issues or would like to talk to me, drop me a line.
