A public meeting is taking place in Lewes on Thursday, September 11, to oppose proposed cuts to bus services in Lewes and elsewhere in East Sussex.

It is being staged at the Westgate Chapel, 92a High Street (7-8pm) and is being organised by Lewes Stop The Cuts.

The non-party campaign group, which has more than 450 supporters, is using the slogan ‘Love Your Bus – Don’t Let Then Take it Away’.

Consultation on changes to services was launched by East Sussex County Council on July 7.

Lewes Stop The Cuts says it is “fighting back”. It has contacted parish councils, voluntary organisations and trade unions throughout the county alerting them to what is going on.

The group has also created a number of leaflets and flyers publicising the campaign.

A spokesman urged concerned residents: “Telephone East Sussex County Council on 0345 60 80 194 to find out exactly how you will be affected. Ask them how you can take part in the consultation.

“Tell your county council member that you want them to oppose the cuts at every opportunity.”
