Campsite plans refused after concerns voiced about access

Proposals for a tourist camping site near Westbourne, including yurts and treehouses, has been refused following multiple concerns as to access and disruption to neighbours.

The site in Jubilee Wood would have been accessed via Bride Lane, a public bridleway with an enforcement notice on it to remove any Tarmac laid along its length.

Objections from neighbours had also voiced concerns as to safety issues with the busy Common Road nearby and the inclusion of motor homes, touring caravans and permanent buildings in the plans.

Possible contamination at the site due to previous landfill use was another consideration.

The tourism and leisure facility application featured plans for a children’s play area, a reception building, offices and a shop to support accommodation such as tree houses, log cabins, teepees, yurts and caravans.

Planning officers found that the rural location of the site would necessitate a high volume of car-based traffic to and from the area.

The refusal notice also found there was ‘no evidence’ for a ‘demonstrable need for tourist accommodation in this location’ and that, as such, ‘the proposed use of the site for this purpose does not constitute sustainable development’.
