'Cannabis' man's car seized

A BEXHILL driver has been charged with possession of cannabis and had his car seized.

Police said as the Observer closed for press: "Just after 5pm on January 24, police officers saw two men sitting in a car in Church Lane, Pevensey.

"The men were acting suspiciously, and drove off when officers saw them.

"The driver refused to stop for the police officers, and a short pursuit ensued.

"The pair were stopped a short time later outside the Smugglers pub in Pevensey. A police car was slightly damaged during the incident. No one was injured, and no members of the public were endangered in any way.

"The two men were arrested and taken to Eastbourne Custody.

"The passenger was interviewed, and later released without charge.

"The driver, James Tonner, 22 years, of London Road, Bexhill, was charged with possession of cannabis, driving whilst disqualified, and driving with no insurance.

"He was bailed to appear before Eastbourne Magistrates on January 29.

"The car was seized by police."
