'Can't Bexhill do more to help the disabled?'

A BEXHILL couple with two profoundly-disabled adult daughters have slammed the town's 'Victorian-standard' facilities for the wheelchair-bound.

Brian and June Stapley say inadequate parking, toilet facilities and inconsiderate members of the public make every trip into the town centre with daughters Sharon and Emma a mammoth task.

The family sometimes has to turn around and go home to Sandown Way because there is nowhere to park their wheelchair-modified Volkswagen Transporter.

If they are lucky enough to find a space they can stay no longer than two hours because there are no toilets to meet their needs.

June said: "It's a sad state of affairs that we're Bexhill people but we can't use Bexhill.

"The nearest place we can go for more than a couple of hours is Hastings because they have the facilities at Priory Meadow."

Sharon and Emma, who are 22 and 26 and have been physically and mentally handicapped since birth, require special disabled toilets and changing tables large and strong enough to support an adult.
