Car blaze sparks alarm

OVER a dozen emergency calls were made by concerned members of the public after a car caught fire outside a school.

Two Worthing fire engines were sent to tackle a burning blue Ford Fiesta on The Boulevard, opposite Durrington High School, at around 3.20pm on Wednesday.

Firemen used breathing apparatus and two hose reels on the car, taking around 10 minutes to extinguish the fire.

The burning car was believed to have caught fire accidentally and was "severely damaged" by the blaze, according to a fire service spokeperson.

Police were called to control traffic flow around the scene of the incident.
