Car crime problems persist

PARKED cars have again become targets for vandals in Bexhill, although police investigating various incidents have made some arrests as they try to stamp out the problem.

Four drunks, all adults, were taken in for questioning after several cars were damaged in Amherst Road last month. Between 5pm last Thursday and 8.15am the next day, the rear window of a car parked in a driveway in London Road, Bexhill, was shattered.

The following night someone smashed a car window in Hastings Road, but police say the incident was captured on closed circuit television (CCTV) and clear images of the offender mean they are hopeful of making an arrest.

A key or similar object was used to scratch paintwork on a car parked on West Parade overnight on Friday and Saturday, November 18 and 19.

Thefts of tools from unattended vehicles are also causing problems, with incidents reported at The Shrublands and Hawkhurst Way.

Sergeant Dan Russell, of Bexhill police, has urged residents to remain vigilant to theft from and damage to vehicles, and if anyone sees or suspects such an act being committed they should dial 999 and report it to the police.
