Car hit telegraph pole on the A21

EMERGENCY services were scrambled to the A21 in the early hours of Tuesday morning (August 13) after a car collided with a telegraph pole.

Police officers, firefighters, ambulance crews and the Kent Air Ambulance were called to the accident outside the Sedlescombe Golf Club at Kent Street just before 2am.

A car had hit a telegraph pole, which had broken off at ground level and sent the vehicle rolling into a nearby ditch.

The driver, a woman aged in her 20s, was trapped inside the car and had to be freed by Battle firefighters.

She was placed on a spinal board as a precautionary measures before she was released.

The driver sustained a fractured ankle and suffered injuries to her lower leg and neck in the incident.

She was taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton by land ambulance, accompanied by a doctor and paramedic from the Kent Air Ambulance team.

Police say the woman’s injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

It is not yet clear how the vehicle ended up in the ditch and police have launched an investigation into what caused the crash.

Police are appealing for any witnesses to the accident to come forward.
