The family-run Skoda dealership, based on Billingshurst Road in Broadbridge Heath, has held a number of successful events for local drivers over the past few years, including workshops for young drivers and the elderly, yet Ladies Night has proved the most popular with Sussex residents.

The evening event, which runs from 6pm to 8pm, provides women with a unique opportunity to learn basic car mechanics such as how to change a tyre, check oil and water levels or jump start a vehicle, all in a safe and secure environment.

Station Garage’s friendly and supportive mechanics are on hand throughout the evening to offer step by step instructions and answer any car related queries from attendees. According to government statistics, the number of registered female car owners has increased by 72 per cent since 1995 and women now account for about 40 per cent of registered car keepers within the UK1.

However, it is still widely thought that female drivers are less confident than their male counterparts when it comes to car maintenance, with many opting to contact roadside assistance rather than getting hands on with their vehicles.

James Thorpe, Dealer Principal at Station Garage, said: “Our Ladies Night event is a great opportunity for local women to come and learn essential car maintenance skills in a relaxed environment.

“Feedback from previous attendees has clearly shown us that some ladies, although interested in learning basic mechanics, have never invested the time to learn them for fear of being judged. After attending our event however, they were delighted with their new found knowledge.”
