CAR PARK CHARGES RISE AT COUNTRY PARK

EASTER sees the first rise in car parking charges at the Seven Sisters Country Park for seven years.

Parking for up to two hours will rise to 2 (from 1) and for more than two hours to 3 (from 2).

The South Downs Joint Committee (SDJC), which manages the site for East Sussex County Council, took the decision as the result of county's poor grant settlement from the government.

County councillor Matthew Lock said: 'We have been one of the main funders for the South Downs Joint Committee since its formation and we are very keen to support its works at Seven Sisters Country Park and in the surrounding area.

'In the light of the government's harsh financial settlement we support the decision to raise the parking charges at the country park as the best way of continuing to fund this important work.'

Residents' permits continue at 20 and money raised from car park charges will go towards downland conservation.
