Car park fees hike bid opposed

CAR park users in Mid Sussex are furious about plans for massive increases to charges in Haywards Heath and Burgess Hill.

Mid Sussex District Council is considering putting up car park fees by 150 per cent in next month's budget but faces strong opposition.

Campaigner Irene Balls, of Bentswood, Haywards Heath, said: "At a time when local businesses are struggling to make ends meet and trade is down, these plans would make their job harder by putting parking charges through the roof."

Neighbouring Lewes District Council has not raised charges in its car parks for four years to support local traders.
