The presiding officer at the polling station, in Sompting, reportedly could not gain access to the building and had to set up a makeshift facility in his car.

Adam Hodson, who captured the scene, said: “The presiding officer could not gain access to the building and set up a temporary polling station in the back of his car until he could gain access to the polling station.”

Sompting lies in Adur district, which voted to leave the European Union in Thursday’s referendum.
