On Sunday morning (January 28) the crew turned out and washed cars tirelessly for four hours raising more than £250 for the RNLI. The event was so popular they added an extra hour and eventually had to turn people away.

The station had an excellent turnout – 30 cars being washed in all – and even RNLI mascot Stormy Sam lent a hand. Some of the cars were a distinctly different colour when they drove out than when they arrived.

In all, the team raised £235 on the car wash and £36 on refreshments.

“We would like to thank everyone who came along and supported our first ever car-washing event, without them it would not have been such a success,” said Rye Harbour volunteer lifeboat press officer KT Bruce.

“Without fund-raising events such as this, the charity wouldn’t be able to continue with its aim of saving lives at sea,” said KT, adding that the charity rescued 8,643 people and saved 431 lives in 2016. We’d also like to thank all of the crew and the fundraising team led by Pauline Blaney for their hard work.”
