Caravan destroyed after fire at Selsey holiday park

Fire crews were called to a Selsey holiday park last night (April 22) to reports of a blaze at a caravan.

West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service crews were called out to a fire at the Bunn Leisure site off Mill Lane at 9.20pm.

Photographs of the scene this morning show the aftermath of the blaze, with the caravan destroyed.

A spokesperson for West Sussex Fire & Rescue Service said: “Last night we attended a fire involving a mobile home at a premises off Mill Lane in Selsey at 9.20pm.

“Joint Fire Control mobilised firefighters from Selsey Fire Station to the scene along with off-road vehicles from Chichester and Petworth. A second fire engine from Petworth Fire Station was also mobilised to the scene.

“All residents were accounted for, and firefighters wearing breathing apparatus were able to extinguish the fire using two jets and a hose reel. Crews remained on scene damping down and used a thermal imaging camera to ensure there were no further hotspots.

“Fortunately there were no casualties. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.”

Danny Kaye, resort director of Cove UK which runs the Bunn Leisure site, said: “The cause of the fire remains under investigation and we are assisting the West Sussex Fire & Rescue Service and the police with their enquiries. We are of course extremely glad no one was injured and will provide more information when it is appropriate to do so.”

It was a busy evening for the fire service, with West Sussex firefighters assisting East Sussex crews at a blaze at Devil’s Dyke before being called to a commercial building near West Dean where a fire was taking hold.
