Caravan site plan for Flansham revealed

Plans have been revealed to create a camp site in Flansham for hundreds of holidaymakers.

Paul Bennett wants to change the use of former farm land in Hoe Lane to a destination for touring caravanners and campers.

He has asked Arun District Council for planning permission for the proposed use of the open grass field next to Hoe Barn Cottage.

He also wants approval to place a transportable single-storey timber building on the land as a base for two full-time staff. A permanent shower and toilet block completes his proposal.

It is intended to be used as a base for touring activities on foot or cycle rather than as a focus for concentrated recreational activities.

This will take advantage of Hoe Lane's status as part of the county council's south coast cycle route.

A statement to the council on Mr Bennett's behalf says: "It will be appreciated that the site is intended to promote and reflect an ethos of engagement with the countryside, attracting patronage from visitors who are enthusiastic about pursuing rambling or cycling activities in the surrounding area...

"For this reason, no leisure facilities, such as a restaurant, cafeteria, outdoor pool or games areas are provided for, nor are planned group activities envisaged on site, all of which are adequately catered for elsewhere in other static, residential or holiday sites. "

The planning application by Mr Bennett, of Hoe Farm Cottage in Hoe Lane, foresees 109 uniform sized plots on the land of almost 1.9 hectares.
