Caravan tax will affect Rye tourism says MP

Now Amber is fighting a proposed tax on static caravans which could damage tourism in the Rye area.

The Rye area has caravan parks at Camber, Fairlight and Winchelsea Beach which being hundreds of people to the area each year and help boost the local economy.

The 2012 Budget contained a proposal to impose VAT on static holiday caravans from October. This plan could directly impact on the thriving industry says Amber.

She joined other MP’s in presenting a petition to Parliament this week urging the Government to change its position and scrap the tax.

The petition, which says the caravan tax would cost jobs and not generate significant revenue, garnered tens of thousands of signatures from across the UK.

Amber visited Rocklands Holiday Park, near Fairlight, to listen to how this tax would affect their business.

She commented: “I am very concerned about the impact that this tax would have on the holiday parks in the Rye area.

“Tourism is incredibly important to the local economy and this would seriously impact on this important industry. I am joining local residents and other MPs to urge the Chancellor to reverse this decision.”
