Care home plan rejected

TOO tall, too bulky, with poorly integrated features and no information on how it might affect traffic - Rother District Council planners last week refused permission for a proposed 91-room extra care home at Meads, Camber Close, Bexhill.

The proposed development would have meant three buildings on the site being demolished to make way for a single new building, with just Meads Lodge, a chalet-style house, being kept for staff accommodation.

Councillors heard there had been 17 objections from individual homeowners and a petition against the scheme from occupants of Laurel Bank, Hastings Road, and the Highways Authority had urged refusal in the absence of a traffic assessment.

They backed their own officers’ recommendation for refusal, noting that several elements were contrary to the Rother District Local Plan.
