Care worker seen '˜panicking'

THE trial of a care home worker accused of starting a fire which killed a resident continued this week.

Rebecca Reasbeck (pictured), 20, of Upper Park Road, St Leonards, denies murder and an alternative charge of manslaughter.

But Lewes Crown Court heard this week that a co-worker had seen her “panicking” and was intent on getting to 85-year-old Irene Herring’s room rather than evacuate other residents.

Steven Walter, who worked alongside Reasbeck, said: “I remember her saying, ‘We need to get her out’.”

The prosecution claims Reasbeck started the fire in Mrs Herring’s rooms to she could be hailed a hero for raising the alarm.

The case continues.
